| The 2007 Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill featured a purse of $2.2 million and showcased the world's best female professional golfers. The elite field included all four past tournament champions: Grace Park, Se Ri Pak, Cristie Kerr and defending champion and Hall of Famer, Karrie Webb. Stephanie Louden and Charlotta Sorenstam joined the field as the two sponsor exemptions. The spirit of the LPGA, as well as the great talent and fan-friendly attitude of the players contributed to the overall success of this year’s tournament. The River Course was in top form and served as a beautiful venue for an exciting week of competitive golf at Kingsmill. |

The 2007 Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill ended in a dramatic finish when Suzann Pettersen claimed victory and earned her first-career LPGA win in an exciting triple round sudden death playoff. Carding a bogey-free 3-under-par final round, Pettersen tied the lead with Jee Young Lee and went on to claim victory on the third playoff hole. Pettersen, the first player from Norway to win on the LPGA Tour, walked away with a Waterford crystal trophy and a check from Anheuser-Busch for $330,000 – one of the highest payouts on the LPGA Tour. Her win also earned her a spot in the season-ending ADT Championship where she will have a chance to win $1 million.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
- The charity pro-am tournaments were a great success. The winning team in Monday’s Education is Freedom Charity Pro–Am was led by LPGA professional Mhairi McKay. On Saturday, Jackie Gallagher-Smith’s team took first place at the Boys & Girls Clubs Charity Pro-Am presented by Cox Communications.
- LPGA players cheered on their caddies as they participated in the 3rd Annual Caddie Tournament held on the Bray Links on Monday afternoon. The caddies also had a chance to win $10,000 in the Hole-In-One Contest.
- On Tuesday, Becky Iverson, Hilary Lunke, Mi Hyun Kim and Lee Ann Walker-Cooper assisted with the Junior Clinic presented by Wal-Mart Distribution Center 6088. With over 200 juniors in attendance, the professionals shared their skills and taught them about the fundamentals of golf in an effort to encourage their interest in the game.
- Tuesday’s Fairways and Runways Fashion Show and Luncheon provided helpful fashion hints and presented clothing from Carlisle and Etcetera Clothing Companies.
- On Wednesday, Grace Park’s team won the Michelob ULTRA Open Pro-Amateur Event. A field of 232 amateurs was paired with the 58 top LPGA professionals for an exciting round on the River Course.
- On Saturday, spectators cheered on youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula as they attempted to sink a putt to win their moms 6 months of free cable provided by Cox Communications.
- On Saturday and Sunday, juniors and their families enjoyed a variety of games and activities at the tournament’s first-time Family Fun Zone.
- Four moms on Tour played on Mother’s Day: Juli Inkster, Carin Koch, Leta Lindley and Catriona Matthew.
- Sarah Lee, who finished third, tied the tournament record with an 8-under par 63 during the opening round. Runner-up, Jee Young Lee, achieved the same feat during the tournament’s third round.
- The “Toughest Hole” honor fell once again to the par-4 Hole 8. Players averaged 4.26 strokes on the 401-yard hole, with a total of 117 bogeys and 15 double-bogeys.
- Thirty-seven Kingsmill families opened their homes to host forty-five LPGA players ranging from Tour rookies to veterans.
