MICHELOB ULTRA OPEN DAILY MEDIA BRIEFING
For Saturday, May 13, 2006
Webb, Kerr Lead Michelob ULTRA Open Field
Hall-of-Famer Karrie Webb is proving that taking a break from the Michelob
ULTRA Open in 2005 is not hurting her standing in 2006. Webb shot a 3-Under,
68 in the Second Round on Friday for a two-day total of 134 and a one-stroke
lead over pairings partner and 2005 Champion Cristie Kerr. Kerr picked
up two strokes on Friday, shooting a 5-Under, 66. Pat Hurst is third at
-3 after posting two rounds of 68, with Hall-of-Famer Juli Inkster alone
in fourth at -5.
Annika Out
Annika Sorenstam broke her streak of 68 consecutive cuts made when she
missed the cut for the first time since the 2002 Women’s British
Open. Sorenstam shot two consecutive rounds of 73 to finish at +4 after
36 holes. Friday also marked her first missed cut in a non-major since
1994. A year ago, Annika finished 12th in her bid to break Nancy Lopez’s
record for consecutive victories, set at five in 1978 and tied by Sorenstam
in 2004-2005. However, Sorenstam’s streak of 68 made cuts is not
her longest. She made 74 consecutive cuts from 1999-2002.
Making The Cut
The official cut was set at +3, with 71 players slated to tee off beginning
at 7:05 a.m. during Saturday’s Third Round. The cut was +4 in 2005
with 76 players included in the final field.
Notable Tee Times
Notable and leaders’ tee times for Saturday’s Round Three
of the 2006 Michelob ULTRA Open. All groups tee off from Tee 1.

Sun Young Yoo, Lorena Ochoa, 11:02 a.m.

Karrie Webb, Cristie Kerr, 11:50 a.m.
Inkster, Kerr In Select Group
Cristie Kerr and Juli Inkster, who stand at second and fourth, respectively,
after two rounds, are halfway to forming a club of their own at the Michelob
ULTRA Open. The two veterans make up two of just three golfers who have
finished in the top 10 at all three previous tournaments. The only other
golfer to have three top-10 finishes at Kingsmill is Mi Hyun Kim, who is
currently at -2 (73-69) after two rounds.
Hurst A Year Ago
Pat Hurst is enjoying a strong rebound from her 2005 performance. Hurst
missed the cut in 2005, but tied for 8th in 2004. She’s currently
alone in third place with a 68-68=136, -6 through 36 holes. Had Hurst shot
a 136 through two rounds in 2005, she would have been tied with Cristie
Kerr for the lead. Hurst’s previous low round at Kingsmill was
a 70.
