2005 Champion - Cristie Kerr
SCORE: 276 (-8) | EARNINGS: $330,000 | PURSE: $2.2 million

The 2005 Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill, featuring
a purse of $2.2 million, again showcased the world’s
best female professional golfers, including amateur
phenom, Morgan Pressel. The tournament was covered
on ESPN2, Friday-Sunday, with the final round
concluding on Mother’s Day. TV broadcast
times were adjusted as a result of inclement weather
and cancellation of play on Friday. Due to the
cancelled second round on Friday, the tournament
was restructured to fit in 36 holes of play on
Sunday.
Cristie Kerr's 8-under performance in '03 earned
a tie for second, but in '05, it was a runaway
victory at the LPGA Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill
Resort & Spa. Kerr shot 68-68-68-72 for her
first victory of the 2005 season and fifth of
her career. Kerr's 8-under, 276 topped runner-up
Jill McGill at -3, 281 through 72 holes. Kerr
walked away with a Waterford crystal trophy and
a check from Anheuser-Busch for $330,000 - the
second highest payout on the LPGA Tour. Additionally,
Anheuser-Busch donated $5,000 to champion Cristie
Kerr in recognition of her commitment to breast
cancer research. Kerr founded the Birdies for
Breast Cancer program which benefits from a $50
pledge for each birdie she makes. With 18 birdies
at the 2005 Michelob ULTRA Open, Birdies For Breast
Cancer also benefited from a $900 donation from
Kerr.
