WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 12, 2008) – Michelle Wie has accepted a sponsor’s exemption and will vie for a share of the $2.2 million purse at the sixth annual Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill May 8-11 in Williamsburg, Va.  Wie competed in the 2004 Michelob ULTRA Open as an amateur and tied for 12th.

Known for her distance off the tee and all-around game since the age of 13, Wie was selected in 2006 as one of the “100 People Who Shape Our World” by TIME Magazine.

“I was pleased with my performance on the River Course when I was there a few years ago and look forward to another great competition at the Michelob ULTRA Open,” Michelle Wie said.

Wie will compete against one of the strongest fields of LPGA Tour players in what has become known as the Tour’s “fifth major” among the players who also voted the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill as “Best Overall Event on the Tour.”  This
was one of four awards the tournament earned as part of the inaugural LPGA Tournament Best Practice Awards in 2007.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Michelle join us for this year’s Michelob ULTRA Open,” said Wayne Nooe, tournament director at Kingsmill.  “Her game matches up very well with the course, and we’re looking forward to seeing what she can do out here.”

In fact, Nooe said even though the Kingsmill River Course is not particularly long, all five champions have been big hitters.

“We are pleased to have Michelle Wie joining us at Kingsmill this year.  She played well in her last Michelob ULTRA Open appearance and we look forward to her return,” said Tony Ponturo, vice president, global media and sports marketing, Anheuser‑Busch, Inc.  “The tournament has always attracted one of the strongest fields and this year’s event will yet again showcase the best the LPGA Tour has to offer.”

In addition to world-class professional golf, the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill tournament week includes three pro-am events.  Over the past five years, the tournament has donated more than $1.3 million to local Virginia charities.  The reigning 2007 champion is Suzann Pettersen.
