ST. LOUIS (Dec. 14, 2007) – LPGA Tour commissioner Carolyn Bivens announced the inaugural (2007) “LPGA Tournament Best Practice Awards,” voted by the LPGA Tour members, earlier this week at the LPGA Tournament Owner’s Association (TOA) meetings in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Michelob ULTRA Open won four of the 10 award categories in the player poll, including the top honor of “Best Overall Event on Tour,” along with “Best Caddie Hospitality,” “Best Family Hospitality” and “Best Party.”

“Being chosen by the players as ‘Best Overall Event’ means a lot to this tournament,” said Wayne Nooe, Michelob ULTRA Open Tournament Director.  “We recently announced our sponsorship renewal and we look forward to building upon the success of our first five years and hopefully capturing a few more categories next year.  We continue to learn and grow with each tournament and would like to thank all that were involved in making this recognition possible.”

In addition, the LPGA TOA and a panel of sales and marketing experts recognized the Michelob ULTRA Open with its annual “Gold Driver” awards with four gold awards in the categories of sponsorship brochure, Web site, pairings guide and interactive marketing; and two bronze awards for radio spot and the overall design of the 18th green.

“We’re very proud to be recognized by the LPGA Tour players,” said Tony Ponturo, vice president, Global Media and Sports Marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc.  “This is quite an achievement for our tournament staff and an honor for Anheuser-Busch and the Michelob ULTRA brand.  We look forward to another successful and competitive tournament next spring.”

The 2008 Michelob ULTRA Open is scheduled for May 5-11, with tournament play set for May 8-11.  The Michelob ULTRA Open offers one of the richest prize purses on the LPGA Tour, with a $2.2 million purse and a $330,000 champion prize.  The event also serves as an automatic qualifier into the season-ending ADT Championship.
The 2008 Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill marks the tournament’s sixth year on the LPGA Tour schedule and Kingsmill’s 28th year as host to a professional golf tournament.
