Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill Invites Top-Ranked Virginia Girls to Compete in Monday Qualifier Courtney Ellenbogen of Blacksburg, Va. and Meredith Swanson of Roanoke, Va. will compete for a spot in the Michelob ULTRA Open in the tournament's qualifying round on Monday, May 5. Ellenbogen is ranked 10th in the country on Golfweek's Junior Golf Ranking and represented the U.S. on last years Junior Solheim Cup Team. Swanson is ranked 132nd in country on Golfweek's Junior Golf Ranking. Ellenbogen and Swanson are the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked junior girls in Virginia. Michelle Wie to Compete at Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 12, 2008) – Michelle Wie has accepted a sponsor’s exemption and will vie for a share of the $2.2 million purse at the sixth annual Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill May 8-11 in Williamsburg, Va. Wie competed in the 2004 Michelob ULTRA Open as an amateur and tied for 12th. Known for her distance off the tee and all-around game since the age of 13, Wie was selected in 2006 as one of the “100 People Who Shape Our World” by TIME Magazine. Turcotte was a scratch golfer in high school and earned a golf scholarship to University of North Carolina but lives in New York City now where she works as a general editor for ESPN the Magazine. Anheuser-Busch offered her a shot at one of the tournament’s sponsor’s exemptions if she could get her handicap from seven to two to meet the Tour’s rules. She began chronicling her quest in September. Morgan Pressel Participates in SeaWorld Electronic Recycling Event Rising LPGA star, Morgan Pressel spent the day at SeaWorld San Diego on Jan. 19 where she participated in the park's electronic recycling program. SeaWorld's e-recycling program is key environmental and conservation community outreach program. Morgan assisted 40 park volunteers in collecting more than 70,000 pounds of used electronic equipment and helping raise nearly $7,000 for the SeaWorld & Busch Garden's Conservation Fund. Following the recycling event, Morgan conducted a golfing seminar for students from Clairemont High School where she emphasized putter and iron swing techniques. LPGA Tour commissioner Carolyn Bivens announced the inaugural (2007) “LPGA Tournament Best Practice Awards,” voted by the LPGA Tour members, earlier this week at the LPGA Tournament Owner’s Association (TOA) meetings in Phoenix, Ariz. The Michelob ULTRA Open won four of the 10 award categories in the player poll, including the top honor of “Best Overall Event on Tour,” along with “Best Caddie Hospitality,” “Best Family Hospitality” and “Best Party.” For complete details, please click here. |
